Kano State Government Sponsors 550 Students On Scholarship To India And Uganda

Kano State government sponsored 550 students who have now departed Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport ( MAKIA) on scholarship for their postgraduate studies in India and Uganda, Friday, 20th of October, 2024. 

It will be recalled that the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, flagged off sending of the 550 students who are the first batch of 1001 students awarded the scholarship on Thursday.

On Thursday night  the 550 students were handed their  scholarship offer and travel documents by the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso; Emir of Kano, His Highness, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero; Emir of Bichi, His Highness, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, among other dignitaries at an occasion, held at O

It will also be recalled that the incumbent governor Yusuf had served as the Commissioner of Works during Kwankwaso’s second tenure (2011-2015) and Senator Kwankwaso during his tenure  introduced the massive foreign scholarship programme during his second tenure as Kano state Governor.

According to Governor Yusuf, Kwankwaso’s uncommon achievements and exemplary leadership style, have been the life wire of his administration.

He revealed that some of those who benefited from Kwankwaso’s foreign scholarship scheme are not only members of his cabinet, but part of the think-tanks of the government.

However, on Friday  while the first batch of 550 out of 1001 arrived the MAKIA ,on their onward journey to various Institutions where they would study for their post graduates and master programmes, the former presidential candidate of New Nigeria People Party( NNPP) informed the audience that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has not borrowed single Kobo to financed the state 1001 foreign scholarships to India and Uganda.

Dr. Kwankwaso, disclosed this while speaking at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport,( MAKIA)  Friday,while seeing up the first batch of 150 Students to India.

According to him,not only the foreign scholarships all other projects under going execution are done with a managed state account by the Governor.

Kwankwaso then urged  the first set of the students that they should shunned drugs addiction, amy act of criminalities and all forms of negativity and be good Ambassadors of Kano and Nigeria in general.

However, governor Yusuf, informed the students that his Government is highly proud of them as such they should be diligence in their studies and come out with flying colors.

The Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside the NNPP Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Friday, saw the departing 150 Students off, warning them against indiscipline, misconduct and negligence of Studies.

Abba, said  the  foreign scholarship scheme is  beginning with 150 persons, while the remaining ones would soon follow up after clearing their Visa’s and all necessary requirements

Commenting in admiration, Governor Yusuf said  the foreign scholarship scheme was introduced by his Mentor and Former Governor of the state,  Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, saying it has brought a lot of positive  benefits to  Kano state and the nation at large. 

” it is clearly seen that some of those trained under the scheme by Kwankwaso are now occupying important positions of authorities in Kano and the nation at large .”

Those who were products of the scheme during senator Kwakwaso’s regime  included the present commissioner for higher efucation, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar mata, the statistician general of the state, Prof Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the special adviser on innovation, Dr. Bashir Muzakkir among others. 

“Let me say that the foreign scholarship scheme was initiated by the administration of our mentor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and today very many States in Nigeria are taking cure while so many of the beneficiaries are today Pilots, Doctors, and Engineers”.

Abba added that Senator Kwankwaso, sponsored three batches of scholarships to foreign studies in about 16 countries across the globe and some of them are Lecturers at those Institutions today.

“This singular effort by his administration has produced many professionals and PhD holders, thousands of masters degree holders, thousands of professionals in medical sciences, engineering, natural sciences, pilots, maritime specialists, etc.

“The practical effort of  Kwankwaso’s administration has been a huge impetus for our administration to continue with this very useful and popular policy of foreign scholarship. 

“In this regard, I am very happy to say that some of the products of this policy are today occupying important government positions of authority in the present administration.

Senator Kwankwaso praised the effort of the state government for continuing with his designed scholarships programmes, which he described as the strongest means to directly benefits  from government.
