In the diagram above, a ray of light passes from glass into air, if the angle of incidence in glass is a and angle of refraction in air is β

In the diagram above, a ray of light passes from glass into air, if the angle of incidence in glass is a and angle of refraction in air is β. which of following statements is true???

A. α=β

B. the efractive index of glass is sinθ/sinα

C. The ray suffers total internal reflection if β is greater than the critical angle

D. the efractive index of glass is sinα/sinβ

Correct Answer: Option D

Explanation

The formula for refractive index=sin i/sin r (where i= angle of incidence and r= angle of refraction)

Look at the diagram carefully and observe the arrow! The angle of incidence of the glass is α and the angle of refraction is β and you substitute in the values

therefore refractive index = sin α/sin β
